INGHAM REGIONAL HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION LAUNCHES AWARD TO HONOR LOCAL FIRST RESPONDERS
07/19/2010
Ingham Regional Healthcare Foundation, in partnership with local first responders, today launched its “Tri-County Hero Award” to recognize the heroism of emergency responders from Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties. Nominations are being accepted now through Aug. 7, 2010. Winners will be announced at a special tribute event on Sept. 11. Visit irmc.org/foundation to download a nomination form.
“First responders are essential to the health and well-being of our community,” said Dennis Louney, Ingham Regional Healthcare Foundation chairman. “Their constant vigilance keeps us safe while we sleep, while we work, and when we drop our children off to school. We wanted to do something unique this Sept. 11 to recognize these local heroes who have dedicated their lives to saving and protecting our lives.”
Ten finalists for the Tri-County Hero Award will be announced by Aug. 28, 2010. Three winners—representing fire, police and emergency medical services—will be announced and recognized at Ingham Regional Healthcare Foundation’s “Stars and Stripes Forever” Sept. 11 event, featuring country music icon Lee Greenwood (best known for his single “God Bless the USA”). Each of the three winners will also be presented with a $2,500 check from Ingham Regional Medical Center to be used for equipment needs.
“First responders are crucial to our hospital’s mission,” said Robert N. Wright, president and chief executive officer of Ingham Regional Medical Center. “They are often the first call a heart attack or stroke victim makes for help and first to the scene of an accident. They deliver the sick and injured into the healing hands of our physicians.”
The Tri-County Hero Award is the first of its kind in the region—and even the state—to recognize the heroism local first responders demonstrate on a daily basis. In addition to honoring local first responders, Ingham Regional Healthcare Foundation’s “Stars and Stripes Forever” Sept. 11 concert event featuring Lee Greenwood will also recognize the men and women of the armed forces for their bravery and sacrifice. Tickets for the concert will go on sale next week and are available for purchase online at startickets.com.
